Creatures of Comfort
Since Jade Lai founded Creatures of Comfort in Los Angeles in May 2005, the store has been widely considered a haven for those seeking hard-to-find labels with standout personalities. Five years later, in the Fall of 2010, Lai opened the Creatures of Comfort Flagship store on Mulberry Street in New York City.
That same year, Creatures of Comfort’s eponymous private label was conceived with a lifestyle in mind: simple and stylish, ease over fuss. Creative Director and Designer Jade Lai debuted the brand’s first collection with her Fall Winter 2010 season. Noted for collapsing quotidian concerns with luxurious materials and a reductively chic approach to modern dressing, the label has continued to expand upon its core tenets, and is supported by their stand-alone boutiques as well as select specialty boutiques worldwide.
Each Creatures of Comfort collection springs from a foundational concept, with sleekly minimalist modernism, a quirky practicality, and the pursuit of the playfully elegant perennially recurrent in Lai’s thoughtful designs as she creates unique, but wearable, pieces meant to become mainstays in a woman’s wardrobe. Augmenting the seasonal stories are collaborations with like-minded brands and creative allies that support and expand upon the underlying thematic narratives.
Creatures of Comfort joined New York Fashion Week in 2013 with acclaimed, performative presentations for the Fall Winter 2013 and Spring Summer 2014 seasons, and introduced its first runway show for Fall Winter 2014.
